Previously, there have been instances of Indian citizens counterfeiting the Pro version of the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, and now there are people attempting to create a pirated version of the coin redemption platform Curve Finance. Recently, a fake Curve Finance App has gained popularity on the Apple Store, even ranking in the Top 100 of financial apps in Europe, America, Latin America, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and other regions. However, many users have warned others on the App Store message board that this is a scam. The official Curve Finance has also advised users not to download this pirated version.
This is not the first time a pirated Curve Finance App has appeared on Apple’s App Store. The Curve Finance team had previously warned the community on February 14th to “beware of scams” and stated that there is no official Curve App on the Apple Store. The previous pirated Curve App was developed by a company called “MK Technology Co. Ltd” and had a rating of 4.6 stars, claiming to be a powerful loan management App.
This time, the pirated Curve is named “Curve defi v3” and is developed by “Tao Duong Van,” suspected to be a Vietnamese developer. The pirated Curve claims to offer various token exchanges, liquidity staking, and other services, and even claims to have “30 million users worldwide,” attempting to gain trust and deceive users into downloading and using it. However, from the comments section, it is clear that all the reviews are one-star reviews calling it a “scam” or “hacker.”
Although the description of the pirated Curve is rough and obviously does not align with the actual use of DeFi, there are still many users who fall for it. The pirated Curve even claims, “Curve defi v3 is a great App! Arrange the blocks in a line and clear them!” This description is identical to the game Tetris, but there are still people who are deceived.
Financial technology engineer Babu reminded everyone on Twitter to be cautious of this pirated Curve and tagged the official Curve Finance Twitter account, urging everyone to remain vigilant and report suspicious apps. This tweet was also retweeted by the official Curve account, urging users to stay alert and avoid downloading applications from unknown sources.
