Bitcoin Games Just Getting Started
The popularity of NFTs has proven the potential and community foundation of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Compared to other public chains, the Bitcoin ecosystem has broad ecological value due to BTC’s unique historical positioning.
Therefore, besides NFT and BRC-20, many people have already attempted to use these technologies in Web3 games. However, due to limitations of the Bitcoin network, these games have been relatively simple and limited in number, and the projects are still in early stages and appear rough.
Nevertheless, Bitcoin ecosystem games still deserve market experimentation and observation of their growth. In the current controversy surrounding Ordinals’ impact on the Bitcoin ecosystem, perhaps other perspectives can be generated through this.

Currently, there are four relatively well-known Bitcoin game projects that are receiving market attention. They are introduced below.
Bitmap is a metaverse project proposed by Twitter user @blockamoto in June this year. It has already issued a total of 820,000 parcels of land. Bitmap uses Ordinals theory and Bitmap theory to construct land patterns:
Ordinals theory: Assigns numbers to the smallest unit of Bitcoin, satoshi, and defines the scarcity of satoshis, which is determined by production time.
Bitmap theory: Transforms transaction information in Bitcoin blocks into parcels, and the differences in different transaction inputs result in different sizes and arrangements of the parcels.

Bitmap has successfully gained market attention. Currently, the minimum price for Bitmap land is approximately 0.0022 BTC, equivalent to $100. The number of holding addresses has exceeded 27,000, and Bitmap’s land has also made it onto the popular list of Magic Eden.
This project is similar to Bitmap and belongs to the same type of metaverse project.
Bitmap Valley aims to integrate social, entertainment, and gaming aspects into one, similar to existing metaverse projects. Bitmap Valley also has its own token called EVLV, which is expected to be used to purchase items within the virtual world.
Currently, the project allows whitelisted users to move and interact with items in the virtual world. However, the author believes that the project is still in its early stages and is still under development.
PixelWar, which went live over a month ago, is also a game built using the Ordinals protocol. It allows all users to place their desired pixels on a public canvas after connecting their wallets.
Once users connect their wallets on the official website, they can choose pixels to add color to on the canvas or directly paste complete images using drawing tools. PixelWar has a total of 2.1 million pixels, and each pixel is priced at 0.000033 BTC, approximately $1.5.

If a large image is selected, the required pixels and corresponding costs will be higher. Therefore, PixelWar has a guild mode, which allows groups to collectively contribute funds to create a work.
PixelWar uses tokens and NFTs to design incentive mechanisms to attract users. For each submitted pixel, users can receive 10 BPIX tokens and also obtain an NFT of the current snapshot image, providing users with speculative motives.
Ordz is just an HTML document, and users can directly enter the game by opening the document in a Bitcoin browser.
Ordz games are all pixelated mini-games. The games provided by Ordz include Tank Battle, Sheep Invaders, Spaceship, and a series of other mini-games. Players can earn points by playing games during each season and exchange them for OG tokens later on.
Currently, the hotspots in the Bitcoin ecosystem mainly focus on NFTs and BRC-20. The games are still in very early stages, and both content design and product completeness need to be improved.
Most Bitcoin ecosystem games are meme-driven, and most projects use incentive mechanisms to encourage player engagement. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to maintain player involvement in these types of games, and most of them are consensus-driven by speculation. Users participating at this stage are advised not to treat these products as investments or speculative activities.
However, Bitcoin ecosystem games have indeed attracted a lot of market attention. Whether it is the unique value of BTC’s ecosystem or the community foundation of Ordinals, these projects add imagination to future development and provide an opportunity for the crypto community to discuss the pros and cons of Ordinals. Therefore, it is still worth observing the upcoming developments.
