With the approaching of the new year, beauty enthusiasts are starting to prepare themselves to look refreshed and beautiful for the New Year’s party. Ulta Beauty, the largest beauty retailer in the United States, has partnered with Nvidia to launch a new AI application that can generate preview images of new hair color styles using selfies taken with a mobile phone. Consumers no longer have to worry about buying hair dye colors that don’t suit them or ending up with strange hair colors that they dare not go out with.

GLAMlab Hair Try On provides AI-generated hair dye illustrations. Ulta Beauty’s GLAMlab Hair Try On allows users to try out different hair color styles by taking selfies with their mobile phone camera or uploading a photo of themselves or a model. Juan Cardelino, Director of Computer Vision and Digital Innovation at Ulta Beauty, said that consumers need to experience new hair styles and makeup looks before making a purchase.

Ulta Beauty has 1,400 stores across the United States, and its brands offer samples to consumers in many retail stores. The mobile app is being prepared to integrate with physical stores, and there are also product links within the app for consumers to make purchases.

Hair Try On is Ulta Beauty’s first generative AI application, which uses Nvidia’s StyleGAN2 neural network architecture and runs AI inference on Nvidia Tensor Core GPUs. It takes about 5 seconds to simulate a new hairstyle, and subsequent generation of each hairstyle only takes about 1 second, without distorting or distorting the user’s face.

Ulta is planning to integrate virtual hair styling with in-store services. Hair stylists can use the app to show customers new styles, and virtual styling allows stylists to show customers what they will look like after the styling, preventing them from dyeing their hair in undesirable colors.

In addition to trying out new styles, the AI virtual styling application allows users to be creative and take multiple selfies, and they can also DIY and try out new styles before deciding whether to order hair dye.

With the new generative AI experience, anyone can change their silver hair to green or purple. Everyone can quickly transform their look and become an internet celebrity.

What is NVIDIA StyleGAN2?

StyleGAN is an AI model framework specifically designed to generate virtual human faces. The new generation StyleGAN2 has redesigned the old framework, improving image quality to make synthetic images more realistic, and redefining image modeling technology. The new model framework can also identify whether a face comes from the internet or elsewhere.
