Ethereum Community’s Annual Event ETHTaipei 2025 Officially Kicks Off
Today, the Ethereum community’s annual event ETHTaipei 2025 officially commenced. Host Martinet Lee particularly introduced the traditional Taiwanese custom of “Bidding” and the design of the hundred-step snake pattern for this event, encouraging the Ethereum community to continue Building!
Bidding! Will ETH Reach 10K This Year?
Host Martinet introduced “Bidding,” a folk belief popular in Taiwan and Chinese culture. When worshippers visit temples to ask deities questions, they use two half-moon shaped wooden cups. After praying, they clasp their hands together and throw the cups. The direction in which the cups land is used to predict the auspiciousness and success of the matter in question.
The outcomes include “Holy Cup” (one cup upright and one upside down, indicating affirmation), “Laughing Cup” (both cups upright, possibly indicating the deity finds the question inappropriate and responds with a smile), and “Negative Cup” (both cups upside down, indicating denial).
Martinet asked on-site, “Will ETH reach 10K this year?” and performed the bidding, resulting in a “Laughing Cup,” which elicited loud laughter from the audience.
The Hundred-Step Snake Inspires the Ethereum Community to Keep Building
This event’s design also features the common hundred-step snake in Taiwan. Martinet stated that the hundred-step snake represents the spirit of the Ethereum community’s continued Building.
In addition to a keynote speech by Ethereum founder Vitalik and his participation in several high-profile panel discussions, ETHTaipei covers cutting-edge topics including DeFi, Layer 2, and wallet technology. The venue also hosts open improvisational music performances and live creations by anime art masters.
On the final day of the event, a traditional Taiwanese banquet will be held in front of the Dadaocheng Temple, allowing blockchain developers from around the world to experience the most authentic Taiwanese culinary culture, infused with rich Taiwanese characteristics!
