In the Dispute between KOL Fengwuxiang and Huma Finance, the Controversy over Academic Credentials in the Crypto Community Has Resurfaced
The reason is that @jcmeowjc, a member of the Huma Finance team from Harvard University, responded to Fengwuxiang. However, the prevailing sentiment in the crypto community seems to suggest that these highly educated individuals carry a sense of superiority into the crypto space; apart from their prestigious academic backgrounds, they do not necessarily stand out. Additionally, Binance founder CZ also shared his views on academic credentials within the Web3 industry on Twitter.
CZ: High Education Does Not Necessarily Suit the Crypto Community Full of ‘Losers’
CZ wrote on Twitter: “Recently, I’ve seen some discussions about academic credentials, and I’d like to share some unconventional thoughts. There are many talented individuals in prestigious schools; as a dropout, I can only admire and respect them. However, academic credentials do not equal intelligence, and intelligence does not equal success. There are many issues with the current education system. A high level of education may simply indicate proficiency in completing assignments and exams. Those from elite schools often cling to their reputations and may not adapt well to the ‘loser’ culture of the digital currency industry or the mud-and-grime of entrepreneurial endeavors. What a waste of degrees! Some may be better suited for jobs in glamorous big companies.”
He added: “Many successful entrepreneurs were troublemakers in school who often got scolded by teachers. Yet, they are the ones who know how to make things happen. Of course, this cannot be generalized. Elite schools are like grapes that are sour for me, as I cannot reach them.”
Turning the conversation, he mentioned his ongoing project, Giggle Academy: “Giggle Academy will not focus on helping students obtain high school diplomas or university degrees. That is not the goal. GA will emphasize helping students find jobs. Without academic credentials, GA students will not need to write resumes. GA will provide recruitment companies with big data support. For example, Student A is in the top 5% for math and programming, judged by their usual interaction speed and accuracy with apps. Student B is in the top 1% for emotional intelligence and compassion, having completed thousands of hours of volunteer work, assisting small classes of students, etc. Education does not equal academic credentials.”
Colin Wu Remarks: It’s Ridiculous to Emphasize Academic Credentials in the Crypto Space; Those with Real Credentials Don’t Show Off
Editor-in-Chief Wu said: “Of course, first-degree Ivy League or Tsinghua and Peking University graduates generally possess higher intelligence or better family backgrounds, but it seems that those who show off typically have paid for second degrees. In an environment like the crypto community that should uphold the spirit of crypto-punk, emphasizing academic credentials is even more ridiculous. Both VB and CZ dropped out of school in Canada, valuing self-directed learning and achieving results independently as more important.”
