Wyoming Announces the Launch of the Official State Stablecoin Frontier Stable Token (FRNT)
Wyoming has today announced the issuance of the official state stablecoin, Frontier Stable Token (FRNT), becoming the first jurisdiction in the United States to issue a “government-backed stablecoin.” Not only will it launch on seven mainstream public chains, but it will also collaborate with payment platform Rain to introduce a Visa financial card, which will later be able to integrate with Apple Pay for everyday payments.
Wyoming’s Ambition: From Regulatory Pioneer to Stablecoin Practitioner
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission stated in a press release that Wyoming, as the “cryptocurrency regulatory laboratory” of the United States, has passed more than 45 bills related to blockchain or digital assets since 2016. These include recognizing DAOs as legal entities, establishing a Special Purpose Deposit Institution (SPDI) framework, and enacting the Stable Token Act.
It is this act that lays the institutional foundation for the commission’s future promotion of a state-backed stablecoin.
After two years of preparation, the first state-issued, dollar-pegged stablecoin in the United States, FRNT, was officially unveiled today, replacing the previously disclosed name “WTST,” symbolizing the first time a stablecoin has moved from concept to actual circulation in the U.S. public sector.
First State-Level Stablecoin FRNT: Over-Collateralization and Multi-Chain Circulation
The commission stated that the greatest features of FRNT are compliance, transparency, and security. This stablecoin is fully backed by U.S. dollar cash and short-term U.S. Treasury securities and is required by law to maintain over 102% in over-collateralization to ensure stability. The reserve assets will be custodied by Franklin Advisers and will undergo regular audits by The Network Firm, releasing monthly verification reports.
On the technical side, FRNT utilizes LayerZero for cross-chain issuance capabilities and leverages Fireblocks for secure infrastructure. It is expected to launch on seven mainstream public chains: Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, and Base, maximizing FRNT’s multi-chain interoperability and liquidity.
Payment Scenarios: Integration with Visa and Apple Pay
In addition to addressing on-chain applications, another major highlight of FRNT is its integration with Visa. Through collaboration with the Avalanche development team Ava Labs and payment platform Rain, FRNT will be usable directly on the Visa network and will support Apple Pay, Google Pay, as well as physical financial card transactions.
Wyoming just launched FRNT—the first US state-issued, dollar-pegged stablecoin—and made it spendable from day one via a Rain-issued card.
The promise is huge:

In other words, holders of FRNT will be able to make everyday purchases at millions of stores worldwide, just like using traditional dollars.
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and the commission stated, “The launch of the FRNT stablecoin will provide our citizens and businesses with a modern, efficient, and secure means of transacting in the digital age.”
Digital Dollar Frontline: Will Other States Follow Wyoming’s Lead?
The emergence of FRNT coincides with the recent signing of the first federal payment stablecoin bill, “GENIUS,” by the Trump administration last month, which provides a unified framework for issuance and regulation nationwide. This indicates that Wyoming’s actions are not just a local innovation but may also serve as a model for other states to emulate.
While FRNT may struggle to shake the dominance of Tether and Circle in the stablecoin market, it represents a new issuance model that is “government-backed and compliant,” undoubtedly providing more avenues for financial institutions and other enterprises to participate.
The commission revealed that FRNT will be listed on Kraken in the coming days and will also be available for purchase through the Rain platform on Avalanche, although public issuance still awaits further notification.
