CZ Banned from Leaving the Country Twice
According to CoinDesk, U.S. District Judge Richard Jones in Washington, D.C. once again denied Binance founder Zhao Changpeng’s (CZ) request to leave the country on December 27th.
Although the judge initially believed that CZ did not pose a significant flight risk, it was decided after reviewing the bail conditions that CZ would be prohibited from leaving the country. This is the second time CZ’s request to leave the country has been denied.

CZ’s Defense Team Requests Document Sealing
CZ and his defense team have requested the sealing of certain documents related to his travel plans, citing the sensitive nature of the information, including CZ’s children’s privacy and medical issues.
Since the sealing order signed by Judge Richard Jones is not publicly available, the reasons for denying CZ’s departure are unknown.
Previous reasons included concerns about CZ’s assets being beyond control, CZ’s ability to freely move within the U.S., and the ability for his family to visit him in the U.S.
Sentencing Hearing to Be Held in February
CZ’s sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on February 23, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time in the Western District Court of Washington.
If CZ refuses to appear in court, he may be charged with a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
