Meme Coin Telepathy Surges
On January 29th, Musk’s neurotechnology company Neuralink successfully implanted its cutting-edge device into a human test subject. The identity of the patient has not been disclosed, but they are said to be recovering well after the surgery. Musk himself shared this news on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Neuralink’s human trials began in May, when the company was authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct its first clinical trials in humans. Last fall, the company started recruiting patients to participate in these trials, further paving the way for its commercialization.
Musk revealed that Neuralink’s first product is called “Telepathy” and it can restore mobility to severely paralyzed individuals. Telepathy is said to allow these patients to control external devices using only neural signals. It can provide a means of communication for those who have lost traditional communication abilities, potentially revolutionizing the way patients with neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) interact with the world.
Musk stated, “Telepathy” will allow you to control your phone or computer with your mind. The initial users will be people with physical disabilities. “You can imagine what it would be like if Stephen Hawking could communicate more efficiently, that’s the goal.”
Although this initial human trial is a step forward for Neuralink, it is just a small beginning in obtaining FDA approval. Medical device companies like Neuralink must undergo multiple rounds of data collection and rigorous testing to obtain final approval from regulatory agencies.
Neuralink is not the only participant in the booming brain-machine interface (BCI) industry. Companies like Synchron, Precision Neuroscience, and Paradromics are also developing similar technologies and making progress in their respective fields. With Musk’s high profile, Neuralink has garnered significant attention, but the market competition remains fierce, with multiple competitors vying for a leading position. The world is eagerly anticipating the transformative impact of this technology on humanity.
The crypto community, always eager for excitement, quickly embraced the meme coin Telepathy, which saw a surge of 41,000%:
