2/9, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong issued a public warning in collaboration with the police, stating that an organization operating under the name “MEXC” is suspected of engaging in virtual asset-related fraud. The organization claims to be a regulated virtual asset trading platform (VATP) in Hong Kong, which has drawn significant attention from regulatory authorities and the police.
(This fraudulent platform is not related to the legitimate platform called “MXEC”, they are only using the same name for fraudulent purposes.)

SFC Blocks Virtual Asset Scam Using the Name MEXC
Preventive Measures and Reminders by SFC
SFC and the police have formed a joint task force dedicated to monitoring and investigating illegal activities of virtual asset trading platforms. They have shared intelligence on this case. MEXC is suspected of luring victims through social media and instant messaging chat groups, pretending to offer free investment advice.
In these chat groups, victims who are interested in purchasing cryptocurrencies are guided to the website operated by MEXC. Before making investments, they are asked to deposit funds into designated bank accounts, but later find that they are unable to withdraw their funds.
On February 9, 2024, SFC listed MEXC and its website on the alert list of suspicious virtual asset trading platforms, and the police took measures to block MEXC’s website. However, the public still needs to be cautious of potential websites with similar domain names that MEXC may continue to create.
SFC once again reminds the public to exercise caution regarding “get rich quick” investment opportunities and advice posted on social media platforms and instant messaging applications. Unauthorized platforms often use names similar to legitimate entities to confuse investors, so investors should remain highly vigilant when making investment decisions.
MEXC claims to be a VATP and operates the following websites:
