On the morning of April 3, 2024, an unexpected earthquake struck, shaking the entire island of Taiwan. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the eastern waters of Taiwan, with a magnitude of 7.2. This was the largest earthquake in 25 years since the 921 earthquake, and the shaking was felt throughout Taiwan, especially in the heavily affected Hualien area. This earthquake has caused a series of severe consequences. According to statistics from the Central Disaster Response Center, as of the 7th, 13 people have died, 1140 people have been injured, and 6 people are missing. Countless buildings have collapsed, and infrastructure such as transportation, electricity, medical care, and education has suffered serious damage. In response to this, HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange, along with the Ko brothers, Ko Ping Yi, Ko Ping Chung, and Ko Ping Han, international billiards champions sponsored by HOYA BIT, took practical action to participate in disaster relief and provide support and warmth to the affected areas.
Peggy Peng, CEO of HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange, said, “This earthquake has deeply shocked and saddened us. As a part of Taiwan, HOYA BIT knows that unity and support are crucial in such difficult times, and we hope to help the victims recover their normal lives as soon as possible.” She further pointed out that after the earthquake, many people have come forward, hoping to help the victims through their own efforts. This made her sigh, “This is the most beautiful scenery of Taiwan!”
HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange has always been concerned about public welfare. When the earthquake occurred in the Korean Peninsula, they not only donated a day’s salary from all employees for disaster relief but also paid long-term attention to science and technology education in remote areas. Faced with the earthquake in Taiwan, they felt very worried and immediately launched a caring action. They called the Hualien area on the same day to inquire if there was a need for supplies or other support to provide help to the victims as much as possible. At the same time, they also proactively contacted the Hualien and Wulai mountain area elementary schools where they had previously cooperated in organizing science and technology education activities to confirm if there were any damages caused. Fortunately, the principals reported good news that all school staff members were safe and sound.
In the face of the disaster, the Taiwanese people have shown remarkable unity and courage. Rescue teams and volunteers from all over the country have quickly rushed to the disaster area, actively participating in search and rescue and relief work, hoping to quickly recover the lives and property losses of the victims. Despite the difficulties, the Taiwanese people remain hopeful and determined to walk the path of disaster relief. The Ko brothers, the shining stars of the billiards world in Taiwan, have also stepped forward during this difficult time and held a meaningful “Hualien Disaster Relief Charity Sale” event.
The Ko brothers, well-known billiards players in Taiwan, with the eldest brother Ko Ping Yi and the second brother Ko Ping Chung having won the title of world champions multiple times. This time, they brought out their cherished Super League jerseys, which were filled with the autographs of 16 participating players in the Super League. Originally, they planned to display this collection with great commemorative significance in their training room, but seeing the recent earthquake and the resulting disaster, the Ko brothers were deeply shocked. Therefore, they decided to hold a charity sale event for this precious jersey, giving it even greater significance and hoping to contribute to the Hualien disaster relief effort.
The charity sale event has received enthusiastic responses from all sectors of society. After a fierce bidding war, it was finally won by a kind-hearted billiards enthusiast for NT$150,000. In this moment that requires collective efforts, HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange was deeply moved by everyone’s enthusiastic participation and is well aware of its social responsibility as a Taiwanese company. They decided to donate an additional NT$150,000 from the proceeds of the final charity sale, adding more strength to this event.
Under the shadow of the disaster, the Taiwanese people have shown great unity and courage, working together to fight against the disaster. Although the disaster has brought pain and difficulties, the seeds of hope have taken root and sprouted in this land. HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange has demonstrated its corporate social responsibility by actively participating and drawing more attention to the earthquake disaster, bringing warmth and support to the people in the affected areas. With everyone united and overcoming the difficulties together, we will be able to rebuild our homeland!
