BingX Charity and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation have made significant progress in opposing global whale and dolphin captivity. BingX Charity is the charitable organization under the global leading cryptocurrency exchange BingX. The two parties became strategic partners in December 2023 and collaborated to launch the End Captivity Project, aiming to raise public awareness about the cruelty of captive cetaceans and reduce visits to captive animal attractions.
The End Captivity Project aims to combat the growing whale and dolphin captivity industry. Currently, there are over 3,600 captive whales and dolphins in 350 facilities across 59 countries, many of which are located in coastal areas. The collaboration between BingX and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation focuses on conducting comprehensive research, exposing and publicizing the breeding and live-capture methods used in the industry, and reducing public visits. Additionally, the two parties plan to expand their influence through mainstream video platforms and social media channels.
The latest project progress report issued by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation shares significant achievements in opposing captive whale and dolphin projects. This includes successfully persuading major UK tour operators to stop selling tickets to marine parks that display captive cetaceans. Institutions such as easyJet Holidays and Jet2holidays have committed to ceasing all promotions and sales of tickets to public displays of captive whales and dolphins. Furthermore, the associated animal bill supported by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation has received approval and will soon launch a public consultation. This new law will prevent travel companies from promoting low-welfare activities abroad.
Vivien Lin, Chief Product Officer of BingX, stated, “BingX and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation are both passionate about protecting whales and dolphins, and our values align closely. The End Captivity Project has made significant progress in raising awareness about the cruelty of captive wild animals. Through this collaboration, we hope to spread the relevant expertise of BingX and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation. Let’s work together to contribute to these beautiful creatures.”
Currently, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation and BingX are preparing for future projects, with the goal of targeting well-known dolphin facilities in European vacation destinations. This activity will utilize digital displays in the six largest airports in the UK to attract at least 5 million travelers, urging the public to refrain from watching dolphin shows during their vacations. Additionally, this campaign will include targeted advertising on social media, encouraging people to travel responsibly, share the cruel facts about captive wildlife, and contribute to animal conservation.
