As part of his campaign, Trump met with several prominent American Bitcoin miners yesterday evening, expressing support for Bitcoin mining during the meeting.
According to the report, he promised attendees that he would advocate for Bitcoin mining in the White House, stating that miners will help stabilize the energy grid.
Attendees reportedly included large miners listed on Nasdaq such as CleanSpark, Riot Platforms, Marathon Digital, as well as CEOs and executives from Bitcoin Magazine and other media outlets, most of whom posted photos with Trump on social media.
Among them, Riot Platforms, which is currently in the process of acquiring another miner Bitfarms, saw its CEO Jason Les mention the promises made by Trump during the meeting in a tweet:
President Trump will protect the rights of all who own, mine, and transact with Bitcoin, as well as the rights of many of us who work in the Bitcoin industry.
CleanSpark co-founder S. Matthew Schultz also expressed optimism:
I just met a guy who is a super Bitcoin fan and loves what we are doing.
After the meeting, Trump also posted on his own social platform Truth Social, criticizing his opponent Biden for his hostile attitude towards Bitcoin:
Bitcoin mining may be our last line of defense against CBDC, I hope all the remaining Bitcoin is mined in the US, which will help us become an energy-dominant country!
He added, “including Democrats like Biden, who tend to favor government-led solutions.”
As the November US election approaches, Trump’s stance on cryptocurrency is quite clear, from accepting cryptocurrency donations to claiming he will reduce the sentence of Silk Road founder. Reuters previously reported that Trump raised $12 million at a fundraising event in Silicon Valley, attracting industry figures like Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
However, whether he will fulfill his promises remains uncertain.
On the other hand, Democratic presidential candidate Biden’s stance on cryptocurrency has also undergone a change, with The Block claiming that since May, his campaign team has been seeking advice and guidance from members of the cryptocurrency industry on digital asset policies. Last month, Biden also recruited a “internet meme page manager” as the latest strategy to appeal to young voters and the Z generation.
